Meet Duke – our new star here at The Kings!

The Kings recently announced auditions for a local pooch to star in La Bohème, the Ellen Kent opera, when it comes to The Kings Theatre on 30 March 2023.

The successful auditionee was Duke, a very sociable and friendly Cavachon. He is also about to celebrate his 6th birthday on 16th March, so its double celebrations!

Duke is a registered therapy dog with Pets as Therapy, the work of the PAT charity is to organise pet visits to schools, hospitals and nursing homes plus other establishments.

Duke has been providing love and therapy to care home residents and staff for 5 years now having been assessed for his suitability at just 1 year old.

Dukes’ owner is Hambledon resident, Martin Clark. Martin will also be donning a costume and taking part in the opera with Duke.

Martin said of the upcoming performance: “Personally, my feelings are somewhat mixed regarding our appearance on stage at the Kings Theatre. I am generally a confident person but having never appeared on a stage in front of an audience previously I am somewhat nervous, anxious and excited all wrapped up in one. But Duke and I come as a team and hopefully with some rehearsal tips and guidance, our nerves will be reduced, and we can give to the audience and actors within La Bohème, an evening they will remember.”
