Salary: £22,000 per annum
In 1907 the Kings Theatre opened its doors and has ever since been a magnet for theatregoers from in and around Portsmouth and Southsea. For 112 years’ audiences have enjoyed musicals, plays, comedy, opera, dance, talks and film in the sumptuous surroundings of a beautiful Grade II* listed proscenium arch theatre, designated by the Theatres Trust as a ‘theatre of national architectural importance.
Our Youth Theatre has been in existence 9 years and has grown in both the variety of the repertoire and the age group of the children attending. We now have 12 teaching groups with activities for each age group.
The Youth Theatre Co-ordinator will work alongside the Outreach Co-ordinator and the Creative Events Co-ordinator within the new Kings Theatre Department – KONNECT to combine and enhance the Kings Theatres offerings to the community and help enrich the city of Portsmouth. You will report to the KONNECT Manager.
The Co-ordinator will be responsible for developing a programme of suitable activities to prepare members of the Youth Theatre to perform in their own productions and King’s productions and/or events. You will be planning, leading or co-leading or supporting Kings Youth Theatre sessions, mentoring students through Arts Award qualifications and act as the Designated Safeguarding Officer for the Theatre.
You will have a passion for the Theatre and the Arts; have experience of working with children and/or young people with excellent communication skills; a good working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation particularly in regard to working with and supervising children; be proficient in using Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Access as well as good budgetary, numeracy and literacy skills; experience of record keeping and have good attention to detail. An enhanced DBS Certificate is essential.
In addition to the above it would be desirable for you to have a qualification and/or training in safeguarding children; have a formal customer care qualification; experience of working with people with additional needs and disabilities and lastly experience of working in the Theatre or the Arts in either a professional or amateur capacity.
NB: You must be able to work evenings, weekends (including Saturday and Sunday)
