The Big Project

Whilst retaining and protecting the Edwardian features and charm of the theatre, the Big Project will create new opportunities for everyone to enjoy.

For generations, The Kings Theatre has been a place where people enjoy theatre. Whether sat in the audience, acting on stage or simply marvelling at a beautiful building that has so much to tell us about the past, ‘The Big Project’ has been developed to ensure The Kings Theatre stays with us for many generations to come.

Building on the success of the last 15 years, the Kings Theatre's Big Project is a programme of restoration and development of both its buildings and programme.

Take a seat!

Humans are much taller now than they were 100 years ago, so we need wider seats with more leg room to make your visit more comfortable.

Work planned for 2017/2018. We're also going to improve the bars, foyers and add lift access.

Designated as Grade II* by English Heritage and named 'a theatre of national architectural importance' by the Theatres Trust, we're going to continue to restore the theatre in keeping with its heritage status.

Education & Community

The Kings has always been about people. The Big Project will build on our talks, tours, workshops and events for people of all ages to enjoy.

We will create community spaces, exhibition areas, rehearsal and performance spaces.

We have plans to draw in visitors from across the region to improve and regenerate the local economy.
