Leave a Legacy
Remember us in your will, leave a legacy
Theatre has held a special place in the hearts of many for over 100 years. Countless times we have heard patrons reminisce about coming to the theatre as a child and the joy of seeing their first live show. We intend to continue making memories for the generations to come and would be honoured if you would consider adding your legacy to our own.
By remembering the Kings Theatre in your will, you also have the opportunity to ensure that you can benefit something that is important to you by specifying an area your legacy could support:
- Youth Programme
- Restoration of the Theatre
Or you may leave an amount for the general purposes of the theatre. These legacies are extremely valuable to us as we can make use of them to assist the most pressing need of the theatre at the time.

How we can help
Inheritance Tax and Charitable status
The Kings Theatre is a registered charity run by a voluntary charitable trust. Because of this, there are benefits to your leaving a legacy for us. You can reduce the taxable value of your assets and thereby decrease the amount of inheritance tax due on your estate by leaving a legacy to a charity.
Suggested Wording and further assistance
If you already have a will, a simple change can be made by adding a codicil. We have suggested wording available on request, but we advice that the wording you choose be carefully reviewed by you and your solicitor in the context of your will. As a corporate partner with the Kings Theatre, Biscoes is available to offer their services should you wish to seek professional counsel.
The Boughton Associates
As a way of showing our appreciation to those individuals who have told us their intention to leave a legacy to us, we have created the Boughton Associates. Members will be invited to an annual event for legacy givers and donors and given regular updates on the restoration and programme of the theatre. We are grateful for all donations received and would like the chance to show our appreciation during your lifetime.
Types of Legacy:
- Pecuniary – a specified amount of money or a percentage of your estate
- Residuary – the amount remaining once all other pecuniary legacies, debts, fees or other charges have been met
- Specific Bequest – a gift in kind, for example, a piece of jewellery, property or work of art
Planning for the Future
Making a will is one of the most important things that you can do to ensure that your loved ones will be taken care of and that your possessions are distributed according to your wishes. As the Theatre grows and develops, it would be wonderful to know that there are people waiting in the wings to support us, individuals who have seen the value of leaving a legacy for future generations to enjoy.
