Interview with local ballet star Leila Critchett

Among the lucky dancers given the opportunity to perform at the Kings Theatre is Leila Critchett who had a quick question and answer session about her experience.

How old were you when you started dancing and can you remember why you started?

I was 3 when I started dancing and I started because my mum danced and she said I had lots of energy that needed using up.

How much dancing do you do each week?

I dance for around 8 hours every week.

Have you had to make any sacrifices for your dancing?

I am not able to go out with my friends as much because I do so much dancing.

How important is your dancing in your life and why?

Dancing is a big part of my life and very important to me.  I just love it!  I would really like to be a professional dancer in the future.

What was the audition for English Youth Ballet like?

This is my 4th audition now for EYB. I feel I have gained confidence each time I have auditioned.  The auditions have helped me to perform as there is an audience watching.

How did you feel when you were offered a place in the company?

I felt really happy and pleased when I got offered a place with the company. It is such an amazing experience.

What are you most looking forward to about rehearsing with the professional principal dancers?

I am most looking forward to seeing how the principal dancers work and dancing alongside them and learning from their expertise.

What are you most excited about for the Coppélia performances at the Kings Theatre?

I am excited to dance Coppelia with my friends and get to meet new people and see others that I have danced within past EYB shows. I am also looking forward to performing to my family.

Is there anything else you want to mention about something else which is important in your life?

Apart from dancing, I am also in a trampoline squad with which I train once a week and take part in competitions

Do you have any plans for your future?

To continue to train hard and to hopefully pursue my ambition of becoming a professional dancer

You can catch Leila and the rest of the cast of Coppélia at the Kings Theatre Fri 20 – Sat 21 October. Tickets available here.
