We are always excited to announce a new patron to the Kings Theatre but when it’s a local legend like Fred Dinenage it adds a special something to the mix, as he is known for loving the people and places of Portsmouth.
"I am thrilled to have been appointed a patron of the iconic Kings Theatre. I've sat in the audience at the Kings for so many years - from my first visit as a child, with my family, on holiday from our home in Birmingham, in the 'fifties.
Since then, I've sat enthralled in the audience with my own children - and grandchildren!
I thoroughly enjoyed co-hosting the Children In Need concert which also celebrated the 110th anniversary of the theatre. I'm hoping to play an active role in the continued well-being and success of one of Britain's theatrical gems. "
Fred is best known for presenting the regional news on ITV Meridian Tonight and presenter of children' show How which he presented from 1966 to 1981 and again from 1990 to 2006. Fred went to Portsmouth Grammar School and is a keen supporter of Portsmouth Football Club.
We are all looking forward to working with Fred because he understands the importance of keeping our beautiful Edwardian theatre open to the people of Portsmouth, and are very proud to have him as our new patron at the Kings Theatre.
